Background:Innovation is a key component of the Cellulose Fiber Business strategy at Weyerhaeuser. We are currently seeking a senior technologist to augment our team developing new products for our absorbent products customers.Scope:This position will work as lead technologist on multidisciplinary teams to develop and commercialize new cellulose-based materials in the absorbent products area. Responsibilities span from ideation and creation of new product concepts to lab- and pilot-scale development through commercial-scale demonstration and implementation. The successful candidate will bring original thinking and significant new product development experience. A proven track record in innovation, the ability to work successfully in a multidisciplinary team environment and the ability to work in a technical marketing capacity with both Weyerhaeuser sales personnel and our customers will be key in successfully fulfilling this role. Key functions:- Work individually and with peers to achieve breakthrough innovation in new material developments that meet emerging needs of absorbent product customers.
- Brainstorm and conduct experimental work to evaluate alternative cellulose-based materials that will delight our fluff pulp customers.
- Support the selection of prototype product concepts for further development and scale-up.
- Support the progression of selected product prototypes through bench-scale, pilot-scale, full-scale development and commercialization.
- Work with sales and market development functions to engage with customers.
- Work with customers to understand emerging needs and to help them understand what we can offer in order to improve their business bottom lines.
- Help Weyerhaeuser secure intellectual property rights for novel cellulose-based materials.

Job Requirements

- Ability to planandexecute disciplined scientific/experimental work with a bias toward hands-on work and personal observation
- Experience in creating and managing intellectual property
- Aptitude and desire to work in a broad range of environments (e.g., lab, pilot facility, manufacturing facility, customer location)
- Abilityand disposition toward maintaining a state-of-the-art awareness of relevant technicaland market trends
- Ability to exercise strong strategic conceptual thinking skills while paying close attention to the details
- Ability to work productively in a multidisciplinary team environment
- Strong networking skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent team member and situational leadership behaviors

- Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Track record of successful interactions with senior scientists and managers in customer settings representing new product initiatives
- 7 plus years of new material/product development experience
- Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time, domestically and internationally
- Masters degree in material science, chemistry, polymer chemistry or related field
- PhD in material science, chemistry, polymer chemistry or related field
- Experience in diverse industrial and consumer products
- Experience in the non-wovens or absorbent products industry
- Experience outside of the Forest Products Industry
