Job Description
General Summary:Network Site Technician is responsible for day to day installation and maintenance of switch, facilities, transmission and common systems equipment located within the Central Office, company hub sites, and customer colocations within a hub site.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform preventive maintenance and installation on including but not limited to 5ESS, DMS, C3/8K, G6, Allied Telesis, Fujitsu, Ciena, Adva, Infinera, Nortel, Lucent, Genband, Metaswitch and other network elements or switch platforms, routers, DCS, including common systems, and power plants.
Wire trunk & data circuits, including but not limited to DS0, DS1, DS3, SONET and Ethernet circuits.
Test circuits utilizing a variety of test sets including, but not limited to BERT and OTDR.
Work with other technicians and service centers as needed, to connect Central Offices and to maintain all network trunks and circuits.
Working with customers and/or vendors in supporting customer colocation needs at the network site.
Follow accepted/documented standards and practices to complete work through interpretation and understanding of service orders and trouble tickets.
Work in conjunction with NOC/CRC/Engineering to isolate troubles, and commission services with capacity augments and engineering service orders.
Coordinate/Monitor the work of vendors installers and contractors.
Perform other related duties according to company needs and workload, as required and assigned.
Provide guidance to less senior technicians for repair and maintenance issues
Job Requirements
Job Requirements:Degree in Telecommunications or equivalent experience 1 to 3 years minimum experience with switch platforms and preventive maintenance on TDM and soft switch platforms.
Demonstrated knowledge of Central Office environmentals - including but not limited to, power systems (including AC and DC power plants, generators, rectifiers, inverters and UPS), fire suppression systems both wet and dry, HVAC systems.
Strong problem solving skills, the ability to follow detailed instructions, make decisions with some latitude, organize and prioritize work based on established guidelines.
Knowledge of Safety Standards in working with Power and Fiber
Knowledge of network timing, such as BITS Clock.
Knowledge and experience working with Cisco data equipment.
Knowledge and experience with physical installation practices of equipment.
Strong eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
Cable color code recognition.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to travel within assigned territories.
Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb and works on a ladder, and work over head.
Must have a valid drivers license.
Available for On Call and Call In duties, overtime as necessary.
Must be able to work in a team environment.
