Job Description

CYTOGENETICS TECHNICIAN - Compass Oncology

 

 

Compass Oncology seeks a registered Cytogenetics Technician to join quality focused staff in a state-of-the-art oncology diagnostics laboratory located in Vancouver, WA.

 

Full time 40 hours per week

 

Conducts routine and complex laboratory tests within the Cytogenetics/FISH Laboratory for cytogenetic studies on biological specimens. The job responsibilities require independent performance of specimen processing, culturing and harvesting, slide preparation, staining and microscopy including interpretation of results and report preparation.

 

Duties:

• Proficient in hematologic cancer cytogenetic analysis.

•  Prepares, examines and analyzes chromosomes found in biological specimens such as bone marrow and blood to aid in diagnosis of oncologic diseases.

•  Knowledgeable for selecting and preparing specimens for cell culture, using aseptic technique.

•  Harvest cell culture at optimum time based on knowledge of cell cycle and

conditions.

•  Prepares slide of cell culture for G-banding and slide staining. Experience with Automated Scanning systems desirable.

•  Able to count and identify chromosome number and presence of structural abnormalities; interprets results using ISCN nomenclature.

•  Prepares reports for review and consultation by pathologists.

•  Ability to keep accurate records and multi-task.

•  May supervise wet lab personnel.

 

 

Job Requirements

 

Requirements:

B.S. in Medical Technology from an accredited college and

Certification or Registry (MT) from a government agency or nationally recognized professional organization

ASCP or equivalent, Cytogenetic Certification

FISH experience desired but not required
