Job Description:
A Kforce clients Logistics Team owns the fulfillment and transportation systems that make the customer experience possible, and theyre building a lot of new functionality. Features span an order fulfillment workflow system, a warehouse management system, and a vehicle route optimization service. They solve cutting-edge problems in distributed computing, quantitative algorithms, and usability. They use Ruby, Rails, Java, MySQL, R, and a number of other technologies. Theyre truly an Agile Shop: they work closely with users; ship code multiple times a day; do their fair share of pair programming; and can pivot on a dime to meet new business opportunities. Theyre aggressive about test coverage; refactoring; and paying off technical debt and they have a very strong team culture which has a particularly well-developed continuous improvement ethic and a deep sense of team ownership.
Responsibilities:
- As a Support Engineer on this Logistics Team you will be responsible for improving the performance; reliability; quality; and operability of systems
- Establish SLAs; instrument systems for visibility; and set-up and tuning services for high availability and performance
- Audit system architecture to identify deficiencies
- Work alongside Software Engineers to diagnose and resolve production issues including some challenging distributed systems bugs
- The role requires diving deep to solve hard component-level problems as well as stepping back to understand; analyze; and improve our clients systems
- Note that there are several career tracks Support Engineers pursue including, but not limited to support engineering itself and software engineering
Basic Qualifications:
- A Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent skills and knowledge
- Experience delivering results as a Software Engineer or Support Engineer; either demonstrated through internships or full-time work
- Experience using Linux or another UNIX variant
- Experience writing code in Ruby, Python, Perl, or another scripting language
- Experience writing code in Java, C++, or another Object-Oriented language used for building large systems
- Experience diagnosing software problems and resolving bugs
- Demonstrable aptitude for software design including strengths in conceptual thinking and synthesis
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of experience in software or support engineering
- A bias toward taking on responsibility; diving deep; and delivering results
- High standards (applied to oneself and others)
- A mind-set of continuous learning and improvement - applied to software, yourself, and peers
- An ability to communicate ideas effectively; listen to others ideas; and collaborate to arrive at great solutions
