Job Classification: Contract Job Description: - Creates and maintains short and long-term network architecture plans and connectivity strategies. - Recommends, documents and implements disaster recovery and redundancy plans. - Leads the recovery from a disaster or a major network or system outage. - Provides detailed project management documentation for all major network projects and strategic plans. Design- Identifies, evaluates, recommends, new network technologies. - Works with Project Management to design, provide estimates (cost/LoE), and implement new network infrastructure projects. - Assists in designing configuring, implementing, security management tools. Change Management- Initiates change requests and reviews with appropriate IT staff and Manager ahead of the change. - Communicates and reviews post change status and results. - Updates network documentation to reflect change. - Notifies and communicates emergency changes with appropriate IT staff, stakeholders and Manager. - Identifies required updates to network devices and maintains a published maintenance schedule. Troubleshooting and Problem Resolutions - Manages the logging, documenting, and communication of problems and resolutions. Assists with creating and implementing problem incident response procedures. - Provides assistance to Network Engineers with escalated issues when necessary. - Assists with coordinating technical staff support (internal and external) for escalated problems. - Provides reporting that proactively identifies more complex problem areas with trending activities. - Performs identification, isolation and resolution of issues with documented solutions. - Works to resolve all issues in a timely manner. Operations- Responsible for identifying security breaches and responding to these breaches - Responsible for identifying, evaluating, and implementing HW and SW security devices. - Responsible for auditing the network. - Responsible for creating and maintaining security incident response procedures - Responsible for WAN circuits; Ordering, installation and documentation. - Creates and maintains network documentation. - Identifies and implements performance and operational improvements. - Oversees the monitoring and identification of performance and operational problems. - Oversees network performance trending, documenting, and reporting. - Does network capacity planning and implementing and oversees capacity monitoring and reporting. General- Assists with: monitoring, auditing, and reporting; workstation asset management and licensing reporting; and remotely installing patches to workstations. Assists FSTs with documenting and reporting. - Promotes positive interpersonal relationships with fellow employees, physicians and patients. - Ensures confidentiality of patient information. - Has regular and predictable attendance. - Participates in on-call rotation and responds to on-call requests in a timely manner as defined by management. Education:- BS/BA required or comparable experience. - 5+ years of network engineering experience focused heavily on designing, planning, implementing, and maintaining secure local and wide area information system networks. - Expertise with: TCP/IP, DHCP/DNS, Extranet/VPN/Firewall/PPTP/IPSEC, Layer 2/3 design. - Expertise with routers/switches, wireless systems, Cisco, Juniper, Foundry and Palo Alto equipment. - Experience with a variety of network and Server monitoring tools. Preferred Certifications:Certifications/diplomas: Cisco CCNP/CCIE, Juniper Networks Certification (JNCIE/JNCIP/JNCIS) Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:- Proven ability to effectively plan (including cost estimates), develop and implement strategic, disaster recovery, and redundancy plans. - Identify, plan (including cost estimates) and implement new data network and server technologies and projects. - Do network capacity planning and implementation. - Set up backup/restores of systems, identify and install network and server patches, and create and maintain network documentation. - Build a server completely from scratch with current Server Operating systems in use. - Recover servers from different kinds of failures with minimal downtime/data loss. - Utilize network sniffing and server monitoring tools to log, analyze and resolve pervasive network issues. - Troubleshoot and recover a degraded or failed server cluster. - Negotiate final server specifications based on vendor/project criteria. - Configure and troubleshoot WAN, LAN and WLAN technologies. - Expertise in Network operating systems; network security procedures, audits. Quality of service (QOS) products. VOIP, TCP/IP, OSPF, ATM, SNMP, PPP, MPLS, and frame relay. OSI model with specific emphasis on layers 1 through 4. VLAN trunking, tagging and routing. 802.11 a/b/g/n Connectivity options for centralized storage (iSCSI, CIFS and NFS, fiber channel). How to protect a network from both internal and external attack. - Ability to be professional, calm and collected, even in the face of serious adversity. - Ability to provide guidance and mentorship to others. - A working understanding of the change management (ITILv3) process.
