JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:
USMEPCOM evaluates applicants by applying established DoD standards during processing in order to determine eligibility for military service.

As Lead Human Resources Assistant (MIL/OA), you will coach, train, lead employees working in the Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) Processing Element.  Give pre-oath briefings, obtain/verify data for forms processing, fingerprint applicants, and review applicant records for quality of submission.  Facilitate work processes and solve work-related problems as they arise.  Instruct on specific tasks and job techniques.  Reproduce, assemble and distribute applicant enlistment records. Review assigned work, balancing the workload among employees.  Estimate and report expected time of completion of assigned tasks. Maintain record of team work accomplishments and prepare reports.  Provide technical guidance, information, and expertise on standardized operating procedures, policies, and directives.  Provide input to supervisor on performance, progress, and training needs of employees.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.  Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.  Specialized experience is defined as: using automated software systems to extract data and enter data; review and edit correspondence; maintain/safeguard files; greet/direct visitors to appropriate locations/personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of File maintenance and quality control
  • Skill in Applicant processing
  • Ability to Communicate Orally
  • Coordination with Supervisor

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).


Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
