About the Position:
This position is located in Department of Radiology at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma (Joint Base Lewis-McChord), WA. The Madigan Army Medical Center, Department of Radiology provides timely access to and delivery of high quality diagnostic and therapeutic radiology support twenty-four hours every day inpatient and outpatient, emergency department & Level II Trauma, and deployment missions. The Health Physicists is part of the departments team and plays a pivotal role in the delivery of radiation oncology therapy to our Active Duty, their family members and beneficiaries. The Health Physicist also serves in an administrative role for Oncology Service, ensuring quality assurance protocols are met, attending all required hospital committee requirements, and providing technical advice to radiation oncology staff.

As a Health Physicist, you will be engaged in the design, optimization, technical evaluation, and delivery of radiation therapy and treatment plans. Perform programming functions to manipulate data in providing custom designed output forms consistent with clinic needs. Perform weekly chart checks. Give treatment planning input and guide decision making for complex and difficult patient cases. Evaluate adequacy and accuracy of treatment plans. Provide quality assurance plans. Modify initial treatment plans as clinical needs fluctuate. Verify technologist compliance with written treatment plans. Direct all aspects of intracavity and interstitial implants. Develop and direct the radiation oncology physics and comprehensive Quality Assurance program. Develop performance standards and contract stipulations for maintenance contracts on radiation therapy treatment systems. Perform equipment repairs. Write lesson plans, provide instruction, test, and evaluate students on their physics knowledge.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; also, in meeting the education requirements for this position, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
1. Education Requirement:
To qualify for this position you must meet one of the education requirements below (either A or B).
A. Have successfully completed a bachelors (or graduate) degree in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. (NOTE: You MUST attach a copy of your transcripts with this application for verification.)
B. Have a combination of education and experience - courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A. (NOTE: You MUST attach a copy of your transcripts with this application for verification.)

2. Experience Requirements:

To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: developing and delivering radiation therapy and treatment plans, operating high energy linear accelerators, and using Dosimeter instruments and test devices in measuring doses of x-rays and radioactivity.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities)in the following areas:

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
