Job Summary:

The Machinist 5 creates tooling for new jobs, sets up and operates numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate aerospace parts per engineering specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Reads and understands engineering drawings with a high level of skill.

2. Inspects manufactured parts with a high level of skill.Is able to run all machine centers after being familiarized with the controls.

3. Is able to tool proof first-run jobs and gives feedback to CNC Programmers or Run 1 Team in order to resolve manufacturing problems.

4. Sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve and input computerized machine control media without supervision.

5. Consistently creates and runs a first part that meet engineering specifications without supervision.

6. Able to operate a variety of machine centers.

7. Understands and applies optimal part holding techniques.

8. Accurately manufactures new tooling or repairs used tooling.

9. Analyzes and solves manufacturing problems with a high level of skill.

10. Uses tools to find machine work offsets.

11. Recognizes machine deviation versus cutter or holding problems and adjusts accordingly to meet specifications.

12. Runs parts that meet engineering specification without supervision.

13. Reads, understands and interprets engineering drawings.

14. Follows instructions on set up sheets without supervision.

15. Performs daily tasks without supervision.

16. Applies optimal cutting techniques, speeds, and feeds, and relays recommendations back to CNC programmers or Run 1 Team.

17. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and relays discrepancies back to CNC Programmers or Run 1 Team, and recommends improvements.

18. Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using standard measuring tools.

19. Meets job standard times without supervision.

20. Follows all safety guidelines established by the Company, including proper use of safety equipment and relevant safety procedures.

21. Other duties as assigned.

Required Attributes:

Demonstrates a good attitude toward work and arrives on time for start of shift.

Properly uses all tools necessary to complete a set up and inspect first part to be submitted for buy-off.

Follows instructions and demonstrates strong attention to detail.

Communicates well verbally and in writing.

Good manual dexterity and sense of spatial relationships.

Education, Skills and Experience:

Required:

Strong skills and aptitude in math.

Ability to perform basic functions with MS Windows-based computer operating systems, such as opening and closing files.

Seven years on-the-job experience operating CNC machines

Physical Demands:

Lifting up to 50 lbs.

Continuous standing and walking throughout the workday.

Use of computer keyboard and mouse.

Work Environment:

The Machinist 5 works in the machine shop environment throughout the workday; this environment may include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vapor from coolant, etc.

Possible skin and inhaled contact with various sealants, paints, adhesives, and other chemicalsmay occur, as well as possible skin and inhaled contact with chemicals used to run CNC machines or clean manufactured parts, including solvents and acetone.

Industry standard safety equipment is provided by the Company, and specific notice is posted in areas where safety equipment is required.

Safety training is required and provided by the Company in accordance with applicable law, industry standards, and Company policy.
