Nursing Assistant (non-certified) at Port Angeles

Job Description

Nurse Aides are not licensed or certified and may not provide direct personal hygiene assistance, (e.g. toileting, dressing, bathing, oral care) or perform any lifting or positioning of patients/residents. Hospitality aides may accompany ambulating residents or transport wheelchair bound residents who do not require the attendance or supervision of a licensed or certified staff member. IF A CERTIFIED PERSON IS PERFORMING THESE DUTIES THEY MAY CARRY OUT THOSE JOB DUTIES AS RELATES TO THEIR EXPERIENCE AND LICENSE.

Summary:

Assists throughout the facility in all patient/resident areas to provide non-certified services under direction of nursing and medical staff, by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.)

Transporting wheelchair ready residents from one place to another (i.e., dining rooms, beauty shop, outing from building.)

Set up dining room before breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. Passing water and serve coffee during meal service in dining rooms, under the direction of licensed nurse. Picking up dining room areas after meals.

Cleaning residents drawers and closets as needed.

Making unoccupied beds in morning and as needed. Place resident call light within reach after making bed. Bagging and remove soiled linen and place in soiled linen barrel.

Assist residents in grooming (e.g. combing hair, applying make-up, polishing nails. NOTE: NONE CERTIFIED AIDES ARE NEVER TO CUT FINGERNAILS OR TOENAILS.

Participating in one-on-one activities with residents (e.g. conversing, reading, storytelling, walking inside and outside the facility with residents who do not require physical assistance).

Assisting staff with Recreational Therapies involving groups of residents.

Washing wheelchairs as assigned. Cleaning eyeglasses as assigned.

Adherence to facility infection control guidelines including the principles of universal precautions.

Observance of all facility safety protocols as established in policies and procedures for each department.

Participate in the principles of confidentiality of patient information and the rights of residents to be treated with respect and dignity at all times.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification: Certificate of completion of CNA Training Class; obtained from Crestwood Convalescent Center

Education: Must be eligible for and applied for certification with the state to work as a nursing assistant.

Experience: Prior experience working in a long-term care facility is a plus.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Able to relate positively, effectively, and appropriately with residents/patients, families, community members, volunteers and other facility staff. Possess special interest in, and a positive attitude about, working with long-term care residents/patients and the elderly. Able to read, write, speak and understand English. Meets all health requirements, as required by law. Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The responsibilities of this position involve significant physical activities including standing, lifting (up to 60 pounds unassisted), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting. The tasks on this position description marked with an asterisk (*) are those that regularly require these physical activities. All employees of nursing homes may be required to provide lifting and transfer assistance to residents. Lifting and/or transferring some residents will require use of a lifting device and /or assistance of other staff.
