TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (RIGGER) at Bremerton

This position is located in the Training Branch of the Lifting and Handling Department, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington. You will present courses to shipyard personnel including apprentices, supervisors, trade persons, engineers, and technicians to provide practical application of technical requirements and trade theories and practices through classroom instruction, demonstrations, and mock-up simulations.

As a Training Instructor (Rigger), your duties will include but are not limited to:

·  Developing, revising and adapting assigned courses. This work involves learning the latest in technological advances, analyzing the operations or subject matter, designing the course by determining course content, training aids, and instructional approach.

·  Preparing lesson plans and training materials based on course objectives and modifying plans consistent with the needs of and make-up of the class, state-of-the-art, and professional development.

·  Obtaining or developing the necessary training aids, and determines time schedules and sequences of instruction. Conducts the training and assesses the progress of students in meeting desired objectives, including advising and assisting them to improve their performance.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the duties of a Training Instructor in the Rigger trade to provide practical application of technical requirements and trade theories and practices. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying experience may include:

  • Teaching or instructing in a classroom setting;

  • Assessing training needs and developing or modifying training courses, lesson plans or instructional materials based on course objectives.

    Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
      OR 

      Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree 

      OR

      Successful completion of an LL.M. degree which is related to duties of the position 

      OR

      Combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Generally, current Federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade.  All qualifications and time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.

    Position requires successful completion of the Shipyards Instruction Training or equivalent prior or soon after selection to the position.

    Position may require travel to different duty stations.

    Position involves prolonged periods of standing or sitting. regularly conducts work-site surveillances requiring walking, standing, stooping, crouching and climbing ladders on cranes and in buildings. Protective clothing and occasionally special fall protection is required. Selectee will on occasion, be required to perform light lifting up to 50 pounds. Visual attention required at all times.

    Selectee performs work in a classroom or office setting. May, on occasion, while conducting research on specific work operations be exposed to potential hazards including shock, burns, bruises, etc. Selectee may be assigned to work in areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to, fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc. To ensure employee safety and health, the Shipyard maintains personnel protective programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations. These programs may include engineering controls, and medical surveillance. As part of medical surveillance programs, the selectee may be required to take medical examinations to assess his/her medical qualification for duty involving work with these agents.
