Registered Nurse - Unit Based Educator Family Birth Center 1.0 SFH (0000) at Federal Way

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the development and delivery of nursing and clinical education in a patient care area from basic to advanced practice levels. Plans, conducts and evaluates unit-specific new orientation, education and training in the assigned department. Works collaboratively with unit management and Regional Education to enhance the quality and cost effectiveness of patient care by providing educational support to staff.


Essential Duties:
  • Provides education, training and consultative services to clinical staff in assigned area. Assists with assessing, developing, revising, and coordinating teaching programs. Provides in-service education; participates in related clinical instruction and conferences, maintains and improves knowledge and competency in staffs nursing practice skills. Ensures that educational programs provide staff with skills and competency needed to meet all applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Plans and directs the orientation of new personnel to each unit. Facilitates staff development of assigned department personnel by promoting learning experiences and information for staff based on identified needs of the individuals. Responsible for development of competency assessment tools, ensuring these assessments are completed, and conducts education as necessary in follow-up. Provides feedback to unit management regarding staffs competency for performance evaluation through ongoing skills assessment May be responsible for keeping accurate and thorough documentation of competency assessments and results (varies by department).

  • Ensures that patient care staff are aware of age-specific needs of patients and methods for best meeting those needs through in-services, workshops, etc.

  • Participates in the development, revision, update and education of regional and department specific policies, procedures and protocols.

  • Supports the departments quality improvement initiatives by designing projects to support these initiatives and incorporates quality improvement techniques into their work performance.

  • Collaborates with other Unit Educators as well as Regional Educators to enhance self-learning, promote professionalism among educators, reduce duplicative services, and to provide opportunities for a more standardized system.

  • Participates in related clinical instruction and conferences and maintains and improves knowledge and competency in specific area of nursing practice.

  • Performs related duties as required.

 RequirementsEducation:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
  • Masters degree in related field is preferred.

Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing, and three years of RN nursing work experience in the designated specialty area. Previous work experience in the education/training of healthcare providers is strongly preferred. Masters degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Alternative Requirement: A candidate who, although otherwise qualified, lacks a BSN degree may also be considered for the position if:
    • The applicant has a combined total of at least six years work experience in RN nursing and education/training development/delivery in the designated specialty area; AND
    • The applicant is actively pursuing attainment of a bachelors degree in nursing, with a graduation date identified and continuing progress made towards completion of the degree requirements

License/Certification:
  • Current State Licensure as a Registered Nurse required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Certification in specialty area to be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Any additional certifications as required in each specialty area to be obtained within one year of hire.
